To leave a legacy on Athos and restore the ancient Russian skete.
Our fathers devote their lives to helping others. Now you can thank them in return. We can help them restore the old skete where Russian monks lived, which stands on the land of Pantocrator.
of St. Sava the Sanctified on Mount Athos

The Russian monastery of St. Sava the Sanctified is located in the central part of Athos, in the Kapсала area, and belongs to the Pantocrator Monastery. According to available information, it was founded 800 years ago.
Before coming into Russian ownership, the cell was inhabited by fraternities of various nationalities (Greeks, Bulgarians), it often changed hands and for this reason fell into disrepair.

In 1867, Vasily Boyko buys the cell from the monastery for a small amount of money. He takes monastic vows with the name of Barsanuphius and becomes its first Russian abbot. Under the next abbot, Father Benjamin, around 1880, the monastery was rebuilt to accommodate 12 people, while previously it, like most Greek cells, was designed for 3-4 people.

In 1884, after the relocation of Father Benjamin and his disciples to Kerasia, Hieromonk Savva (Derkachev), a native of Rostov-on-Don, became the abbot of the monastery.
Thanks to his efforts, the monastery was doubled in size and could accommodate 25 people. Two large rooms for pilgrims, a work building, a room for mules, and a winery appeared. A huge tank for collecting water was built. However, despite all his efforts, Father Savva failed to build and improve a new spacious church to replace the old and dilapidated one, which no longer could hold the entire brethren.
The cell had approximately 4.5 hectares of land, and by 1913 its brethren consisted of 25 people, including several hieromonks. Services were held daily according to the Athos Statute. In the second half of the 20th century, the cell fell into disrepair and was inhabited by Greek monks.

The cell needs major repairs. There is a need to build a new facility for the workers, monks, and their guests, as well as to set up workshops, a refectory, a kitchen, and other utility spaces.

In addition, assistance is needed in constructing a new ossuary. Currently, the relics of the monks are located in a destroyed ossuary, practically out in the open. They will be moved to a temporary location for the duration of the work.

Among the shrines of the monastery there was a miraculous icon of St. Sava, painted in the Byzantine style.

The predecessors of the Russian brethren said that the cell had been empty for several years before. Due to the unrest and Turkish rule, the church was emptied and plundered, and only one icon remained on guard of the monastery.

The elders from neighbouring cells, seeing such a dire situation and the neglected veneration of the icon, decided to take it with them. However, the icon returned to its place three times, invisibly disappearing from wherever it was taken. Now its original is in the Pantocrator Monastery. The icon of the Protection of the Mother of God in the cell, which is considered the main one, needs restoration.
